The spread of sargassum is posing an existential challenge for the Caribbean’s tourism and fishing industries. Where some see crisis, Dr Legena Henry perceives opportunity.

Henry is the CEO and Founder of Rum and Sargassum, a Barbados-based company producing affordable biofuel to power motor vehicles, using low-cost locally sourced organic inputs including rum industry wastewater, Barbados Blackbelly sheep manure…and Sargassum seaweed.

She was featured this week in an article titled “From Dreamer to Doer : Meet 5 people helping Barbados achieve climate resilience“, as part of a new multimedia series of stories published by the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group.
